VOUSDEN ONE-NAME STUDY
The purpose of the Vousden One-Name Study is not only to provide Vousden information - but also to act as a forum for researchers. On this page you can share your Vousden ancestry or interest, or explain the "brick wall" that is obstructing your Vousden research. I hope someone will "find" you or offer help.
Please send me a brief resume by e-mail to vousden@one-name.org, up to about 100 words.
State if you wish your personal e-mail address to be given or alternatively for respondents to contact me and I will forward their information or queries to you.

| David Stephenson | David Stephenson | My grandmother Blanche Vousden was born in Eastry, Kent 25/05/1899. Her father was Walter Vousden of Cranbrook, Kent born in 1859. He married Eliza White of Staplehurst, Kent on the 12/08/1882. They had 9 childeren 7 sons and 2 daughters. Walters father was Richard Vousden born in 1809 at Sandhurst, Kent. He married Mary Jenner in 1834 at Ticehurst, Sussex. Walter had a varied working life, he started as a rook boy on Whitewell Farm, Cranbrook, for 6d a day and then as a rook boy with a steam plough set. For 4 years he saw railway service in London. Then he returned to Staplehurst working for Squire Hoare for 6 years. In 1890 he went to Eastry as an engine driver for Troward Clark, and 11 years later he set up on his own as a threshing machine proprietor. The business grew and he was joined by two of his sons, Walter and Syd. |
| Keith Skudder | Through webmaster | Harriet SKUDDER, formerly VOUSDEN, born 1822/23 whereabouts unknown, married George Skudder Dec qtr 1852 Greenwich. They had four children, and were living at 11 Church Fields, Greenwich when one son was born. She died 1866, Greenwich, aged 42. Don't know who her parents were or if she had any siblings, perhaps you can help me out. |
| Noah Clinch | Through webmaster | Maternal grandfather HORACE VOUSDEN (1863-1916) was b. Capel, Kent, the youngest son of WILLIAM VOUSDEN and SARAH-ANN SKINNER (née BROOKER) of Hadlow. William's parents were RICHARD VOUSDEN and MARY RUSSELL, both of whom were b. Brenchley and d. Yalding. William was baptized at Yalding in 1802, but was probably b. in the adjacent parish of Wateringbury. I am interested in the name's origins and in the geographical distribution of Vousden and variants in 16th, 17th century England. |
| Karen Thatcher | Through webmaster | Great grandfather CHARLES FRANK VOUSDEN born 1883 Hormonden. Son of GEORGE VOUSDEN (born 1837 Goudhurst) and ELIZABETH BRADFORD. George's (1837 Goudhurst) parents were GEORGE VOUSDEN and ANN JOY. Have hit Brick Wall on George's birth and parents. Any help appreciated. |
| Nigel Brown | vousden@one-name.org | My 3 x great grandfather WILLIAM VOUSDEN was baptised 24 August 1800 in Goudhurst, Kent, the son of THOMAS VOUSDEN and ELIZABETH née LUCK. He was a coach driver and later a coach proprietor, who moved to live in Bromley, Kent, where he died on 9 April 1839. I can trace our Vousdens in Goudhurst with good surety back to 6 x great grandparents JOHN VOUSDEN and SARAH née WOUSLEY who married 20 November 1733 at Maidstone, Kent, and with somewhat less certainty back to 11 x great grandfather JOHN VOUSDEN whose children were born between 1584 and 1611. |
